have a question?

Specialized Surgical Center of Central New Jersey is happy to answer any questions you may have leading up to your eye care procedure or treatment. Refer to some of our most commonly asked questions (and their answers) below for expert advice. If your specific question is not addressed here, please feel free to contact us at (732) 828-5900.

Can I eat prior to my surgery?

You may eat up to five hours before your arrival at the center. Depending on the time of your surgery this may vary and your surgeon's office will guide you.

Can I take my medication?

You may continue to take medications as prescribed by your physician. It is very important that you check with your surgeon and your primary physician if you are taking blood thinners. Together they will decide if you can stop your blood thinner.

What should I wear?

Loose fitting comfortable clothing is preferred. Please leave any valuables and jewelry at home. Do not wear clothing that must be removed over your head.

Do I need to bring anything with me the day of surgery and when should I arrive at the center for my procedure?

Bring with you a photo ID such as a driver's license, your insurance cards and COVID19 vaccination card (if applicable). When you arrive at the center the staff will review with you the consent for surgery, your financial responsibility, Advanced Directives, and other important information.

A member of our surgical team will call you one to two days prior to your scheduled surgical date and review pre-op instructions and answer any questions you may have.

Your surgeon's office will call you a day or two before your scheduled date and tell you the time that you are to arrive at the center. This will be approximately one to one and half hours before your scheduled surgery.

What can I expect after surgery is finished?

Immediately after surgery you will be taken to our post-operative area where you will be monitored by our clinical staff. You will be offered a drink and light snack.

You will receive written instruction on what you should do at home and you will be prepared for discharge from our center.

Can I drive home after the procedure?

NJ State regulations and our policy dictate that you cannot drive yourself home after receiving anesthesia. We also recommend that you have someone with you at home after your surgery.

What if I have questions about my bill?

Specialized Surgical Center of Central New Jersey accepts most insurance plans and we are Medicare certified. Any insurance questions you may have can be addressed with our Centralized Billing Department at (732) 846-2501.

When asked the question: Was there something we could have done better, the response from one satisfied patient, “In my opinion, there is nothing you can do to be better. I felt very welcomed, informed and at ease. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.”

“I was very impressed with the entire cataract experience! The receptionist greeted me in a welcoming, friendly, and exceptionally professional manner.
